What is API ?

The API (Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient) bulk drug is the chemical molecule present in medicines to provide them the therapeutic effect.

All in all, API is accountable for a product being called the medicine. For instance, Quinine (API) is present in Antimalarial Drugs (medicines). Some combination drugs have combinations of APIs to treat different symptoms and illnesses.

In order to regulate how strong the API is in each drug, the manufacturers use certain standards. Depending upon the different test methods used by each company, the result of the effectiveness of the drug can be different.

Largest API manufacturers are located in India and China. The formulators in the developed countries tend to outsource to reduce the expenses of employees, infrastructure, maintenance and equipment.
The nature of APIs significantly affects the adequacy (delivering the outcome wanted) and the security of using medicines. Compromised quality of the APIs can lead to serious problems, like disorders or death.

To regulate the safety measures, every Pharmaceutical company is strictly bound to follow the GMP (Good Manufacturing Procedure) guidelines as per the worldwide norms to manufacture, test and distribute the API medicines to the public.
